Mug
The elements of art I used on this mug were Line , colors in a neutral tone, texture, shape, form, asymmetrical balance, and unity w/ color and texture. Line is present within the whole mug itself, whereas texture and shape combine on this mug to make the leaves and tree bark. The form of the mug is created by combining all these elements and principles and the asymmetrical balance is present due to the difference in bark vs. leaves. The multiple browns in coordinance with the multiple greens blended are the reason color is obviously present.
The principles of art I used on this mug were movement, rhythm, proportion, pattern, and variety. Movement is present within the lines that create the "tree bark", whereas regular rhythm is present through the leaves in which all are facing one direction, causing your eyes to follow the pattern of leaves; which leads to the patterns present being the shape of the leaves and the texture created by the repeated lines on the leaves and tree bark. Moreover, Variety is present through the neutral colors and the addition of green, the different type of lines for the "tree bark" and within the inside of the mug gradually blended colors.
The mood of my mug is serenity. I envision big forests full of various trees and plants along with the crisp brisk air creating a feeling of freedom, almost as if your in a whole another world. I believe my mug turned out well and that the combination of art principles in relation to the elements I used are the sole reason for it actually working well. The additional color I added before I fired it for the second time definitely helped the overall aesthetics of my mug.
Puzzle Box
The elements of art used to create my puzzle box were line, colors, texture, shape, form, asymmetrical balance and unity. Line is present with the whole mug itself, whereas texture and shape combine to make the piece more interesting. The contrast in colors create a different look. Likewise, the principles of art I used on this box were movement, rhythm, proportion, pattern and variety. Movement is present through the lines that create the design, whereas regular rhythm is present through the direction of the lines which stay consistent and repetitive. Which leads to the texture which is created by the various lines and pattern choices.
My favorite project was the bowl project. I liked that project because we were allowed to create our own bowls in whatever shape we wanted. I believe that you should put more effort into projects in order to get an outcome that you'll like more than if you hadn't put forth effort. That's the most valuable piece of information because it corresponds with life as well; if you want to be successful, you have to put forth the effort. 10 years from now, if i remember anything about junior year, I will remember waking up and coming to ceramics and having to get my hands covered in clay and dust when wedging at the very start of my day.
